With the trade show now over we can say that it truly has been the year of the tablet computer.
So with all these tablets have there been any iPad killers?
That is really hard to say, there have been some very impressive tablets on display, but by the time any of them are released to the public, Apple should have released the iPad 2.
So there may be iPad killers, but maybe not iPad 2 killers.
Here are some of the tablets we found interesting, but remember that most are still in the development stages, and working on prototypes, so may not be as advertised now.
Motorola Xoom – This is probably the most impressive of the prototypes of display, with a 16 by 9 10 inch display, no physical buttons, dual core processor and running the android honeycomb operation system.
Rim Playbook – This is running it own operating system and this may end up being its biggest drawback, as you will mainly be relying on Rim for your software options.
Lenova ideapad – This is a hybrid device which is similar to the iPad, but has a physic keyboard built in.
There were several interesting devices from Panasonic, Samsung and Asus.
Many more companies showed prototypes and mock ups, but these may just end up disappearing before they even see release.
Also HP did not show there Web O.S. device, as they have an event in February, and still have another month to try and impress the public.
Out of all the items on display the XOOM looked the most promising, but it is still not a finished produce, with the device no being fully functional at the stand. I would need to see how it work for real and how the battery life of a dual core processor stands up in real world tests.
One thing is for sure, competition is really heating up.
