Sacred Odyssey: Rise of Ayden HD is a Zelda style RPG released by Gameloft.
This game is free to download, and you will be able to play the first part of the quest, getting use to the controls and combat. This takes around 15 minutes, but at the end of this the application will ask you to unlock the full game for £3.99. The good news is if you have multiple devices as long as they are using the same iTunes account they can be upgrades for Free once you purchase on one of the devices.
The background behind the game, if you play Ayden a farm boy who is the son of a fairly well know warrior who fought in the war against Grimlok’s hordes. Ayden has dreams of a mysterious girl who seems to be asking him to help a tree. Ayden is not crazy, as his dreams become real as he saves the mysterious girl.
Sacred Odyssey is a cross between Zelda and Gameloft’s Hero of Sparta game. The role playing aspects are limited to automatic enhancements to Ayden as he progresses through the game.
Combat in the game is good, but not perfect. The auto lock onto the attacker sometimes means you attack a creature your were not planning to.
The graphics and sounds are both excellent, however there are the very occasional musical glitch.
The main different between the iPhone version and the iPad version is the mini map at the side of the screen. You can also tap the mini map and this will take you directly into the main map screen in the character menu system.
On the upside:
- Involving storyline
- Some great characters to meet along the way.
- You get your own horse
On the downside:
- Auto camera angle can be annoying at times, but can be adjusted manually.
- A few seconds in game loading as you travel through areas.
Overall, this is an excellent game. I found the storyline solid with the history of Ayden past slowly revealed. There are a few puzzles to solve along the way, and most are pretty clear. The story moves along at a good pace and the game manages to keep your interest. The game has several very minor issues that although have lowered its rating a little do not really stop you from enjoying the game.
